Why Do I Need To Track Individual Marketing Campaigns?


Simply put, so know exactly "where your money is coming from."

The average business has 6-10 sources of business that are all tangled up and without clear data on whether that source of business is worth focusing on to optimize, or to drop altogether.

Let's say you post on your Facebook page, Instagram, even YouTube. You may be running paid ads on Facebook, Google, and you have a web page. You probably also have your phone number on your vehicles. That's already at least 6 sources of business.

Most businesses keep doing the same thing for years. That's a very limiting approach to marketing, since there are over 100 ways to market, and the market changes year over year.

This is often the single biggest cause of why a business "hits the glass ceiling" of growth.

Every type of marketing (bar none) has a top point, beyond which, no matter how much money you spend, or how much you try to optimize, it'll never drive more business beyond a certain point.

You probably have a "good idea" of where your business is coming from. However:

  1. Can you break each source down precisely and tie it back to your ROI on marketing?

  2. How much time do you spend on each channel (Time=$).

  3. How much money are you spending on each channel?

  4. How many different ways have you tried to market your products or services?

  5. Have you tested what works and what doesn't?

  6. Do you know how many sales you're converting... exactly?

Marketing agencies tell you that you need loads of tracking data and apply complicated formulas, using a ton of acronyms. If you're a big company with 50+ marketing campaigns on the go at any moment, then that makes sense.

If you're a small company (up to about 25 employees) you don't need that level of sophisticated data and tracking.

  2. Apply a common pre-set date range or create a custom date range if you're comparing multiple marketing campaigns running within a specific time frame.
