How Much Should You Spend on Content Creation for Your Website?
How Much Should You Spend on Website Content Creation?
There is no question that content is king on the web. However, many business owners struggle with how much they should spend on content generation. In this article, we will break down the cost of content generation for websites and for local SEO. We will also provide some tips on how to get the most out of your content budget.
The "other" solution of course, is Spindlie.com (which we created for our own use first). However, I'll go over the costs and realities we faced every day for years for local SEO content - no matter which approach we took, or which article rewriter we used.
Just keep in mind as you read this, your content creation costs could drop by 90%+ with Spindlie.com, and the turnaround time. Even if you outsource your content creation to outside of North America, it would also drop by 90%+. And you'll end up with top quality website content - with all the spintax.
But let's continue the overview of our own painful journey of content creation. We have a HUGE and ongoing demand for content. And there was no solution that actually worked to improve quality and reduce turnaround and admin time for us. The more content we needed, the more expensive it became, it took longer and longer to get, the quality was somehow always dropping. Overall, the whole process drove us around the bend.
Imagine what YOU could do with YOUR business if you could save 90%+ on content and bang it out in hours - for a full site? Smell ROI?
Even blog networks are now looking for quality content, and unless you just need junk content for a 2nd or 3rd tier network, the content creation problem never goes away.
Our objective has been to create ONLY "money" site quality content, and ALWAYS with spun versions, and ALWAYS ensure that the content (including the spun versions) are keyword optimized, can be localized and can have links and images added fast. Having top quality spun versions then gives us the fodder to use spun versions, often combined together for just about any application - from client web pages to guest blogs to network posts.
The cost of content creation the "old way" can vary a lot depending on the following 6 factors
- First, it's based on the type of content you need. If you are looking for basic (real and readable) web page content, you can expect to pay around $0.01 per word for standard content creation quality. However, if you need more complex content, such as for blog posts or articles, or for local SEO, you will likely pay closer to $0.05 per word.
- The second factor is the quantity of content you need. The more content you need, the higher your overall cost will be.
- The quality of your content will have a dramatic affect on the cost of content creation, no matter what content creation platform you use. If you need high-quality, well-researched content, you can expect to pay a premium price and a simple article rewriter tool will not cut it.
- If you need localized and branded content that's keyword optimized, with images and links, then your costs will climb even higher.
- If you need the content spun properly - as a single article that's not localized, optimized or branded, then that cost is layered on top of all the other costs.
- And finally, if you need spun content that's of high quality with each article individually localized, then costs can skyrocket to beyond any reasonably attainable ROI.
The premium price for content can be worth it, however, if it helps you to achieve your business goals. Quality content can help to attract new customers and convert leads into sales. It can also help to build trust and credibility with your target audience. If you are able to generate quality content on a consistent basis, it can be a powerful marketing tool that will pay for itself.
The cost of premium quality content per word is $0.05. If you need 1000 words, the cost would be $50. For many businesses, this is a reasonable price to pay for quality content that will help them to achieve their goals.
The cost of manually spinning an article is $0.005 per word so 1000 words would cost at least $50. Often it can be North of $100 - Even if you're using an article spinner or an article rewriter tool of some sort, it will need to be checked and corrected. So it's very time consuming, no matter what approach you take.
To generate quality content, you will need to spend time on research, writing, and editing. If you do not have the internal resources to handle content generation, you may need to outsource this work to a freelance writer or agency. The cost of outsourcing content generation is typically $0.15-$0.30 per word. That can get pricey too.
In effect, a 1,000 word article that's well written, keyword optimized, localized and properly spun can skyrocket to over $200. Not to mention that the 6 steps can take 1-2 weeks to have done by various outsourced services.
We were determined to come up with a solution to achive the 6 points above using a single platform, be able to hire a VA anywhere in the world, get him or her trained up in a couple of hours, so they could provide us with:
- "Drop in ready" content with all the spun versions, in under an hour per 1,000 word article, using the Spindlie Creator tool.
- If we needed a unique piece of content not supported by Creator, then using SmartSpintax, they should be able to return a properly spun 1,000 word article in about 4 hours - Meeting the number 6 criteria above.
With Spindlie, our content costs, based on $8/hr for a VA with a decent grasp of the English language, has dropped from an average of $167 to an average of $8 using Creator and to $32 using SmartSpintax to spin a whole article.
There are 2 other major factors which also play a huge role in the content creation process:
- Turn-around time - hours rather than weeks
- The elimination of the need to check, correct and manipulate the article before dropping into the site.
These 2 factors also played a major role in preventing us from being able to scale and grow. Managing a mountain of content at various stages of completion, correction and insertion into web pages, became cost, time and sanity prohibitive.
When considering the cost of content creation for websites and for local SEO requirements, it's important to consider your overall business goals. If quality content can help you to achieve your goals, it is worth the investment.
However, being on a tight budget will not get you the desired results. Until Spindlie. It's virtually impossible to get high quality content "on the cheap".
All that said, poor quality content will not help you rank in Google, it will not help you build trust with your audience, and it will not generate leads or sales. If you're serious about your website or local SEO, you must make content a priority.
Fast content creation is our #1 priority.
