Total Number of possible Variations: 3.702707E+14 = 370,270,700,000,000
Total variations with 95% uniqueness: 3.165814E+13 = 31,658,140,000,000
(Use Spintax Checker-Spindlie Content Creator to get the values above)
Consider this:
1. The total number of variations with 95% uniqueness is a VERY big number
2. How many ways can you write something like, for example… “Our services are performed by licensed and experienced staff…”… Should we call it plagiarism?
3. Given the total number of output combinations, what’s the propensity of “duplicate” content in any substantive way?
The reality is, that Google (and all the other search engines) fully understand that because there are billions of website pages covering similar subject matter, duplicate content is absolutely inevitable, because 90% of websites relating to services and products use the same phraseology. It’s inescapable – it’s called “marketing”.
There are a few exceptions, however. If your content is very narrow and specific in terms of scientific, legal, financial or technical and engineering expressions, or is of a very unique or unusual topical nature, then plagiarism and duplicate content go almost hand-in-hand.
For “mainstream” marketers like us – flogging our stuff – getting folks to click on something so we can get a “sale”, duplicate content and “plagiarism” are immaterial.
Unless you copy another web page’s content outright and don’t have the sense to change even a few things, you will get nailed. And rightfully so. But no matter how hard you work, basic expressions describing costs, service, materials, guarantees, etc., etc., can only be phrased so many ways by mere mortals.
Google knows this. AI and NLP are very powerful because they have grasped – and catalogued – the LIMITATIONS of variation in human expression.
Here’s a basic example. When you see someone, whether it’s a friend or a grocery store clerk. How do you greet them?
· Hi!
· How are you?
· How’re ya doing?
· How’s it going?
You may add another 10-20 variations. But the total number of possible greetings is quite finite. And it’s a small number for a computer.
The same thing applies when it comes to discussions about costs, guarantees, delivery, quality, materials used, etc., etc.
Frankly, it’s (improbable) for Google, or any other search engine to penalize you for duplicate content, or even for plagiarism – unless it’s in-your-face blatant with about a 90%+ factor.
Then, you’re actually being “penalized” for being an idiot.
Also, it takes enormous amount of server horsepower to cross-compare every web page against each other on almost a daily basis.
Therefore, unless you have over 70%+ duplicate content, you’re probably OK. If you’re plagiarizing, and that means straight out stealing content with a high level of “exact match”, your goose is cooked. And rightfully so. But it’s still limited in terms of what search engines will do about it. They know it’s not their legal battle, and there’s not much percentage in it for them to “police” your plagiarized or duplicate content – unless it exposes them legally. Which is rare.
But What About Spintax? Isn’t That Cheating?
Absolutely not. Spintax, (if used on web pages that the public actually sees) simply provides variations of the way we say things anyway. It’s not magic, nor is it wrong. It’s just an efficient way of informing web page visitors.
For example. You have 50 clients who’re paying you to build them a website. You’re probably going to build them very similar pages. A home page, a few about services they offer, an about us page, etc.
What are you going to write in all those pages that’s so different?
I can guarantee that in every website, there’ll be a “call to action” prompting the web page visitor to “give the business a call, which will be some variation of “give us a call, we guarantee first class service”…
There may be 100 ways to write that, but given the hundreds of millions of service based websites, that leaves room for a LOT of “duplicate” content.
I rest my case about duplicate content. This applies to products as well, by the way.
The ONLY thing you should concern yourself with, is whether or not your content - particularly if its spun – will “convert” your visitor to “take action”. To actually buy something, to click-to-call, to fill out a form or to send a message.
Never let good content go to waste. Spin it! Save it! Use it again and again.
And that's where Spindlie.com comes in.
